Movie favourites

I am an absolute documentary slave and this movie captured me the very second I saw a glimpse of it on TV quite a while ago. I watched it again yesterday and was immersed into an almost surreal world. Werner Herzog's voice is phenomenal and I especially liked the mystycally sounding old russian chants in the soundtrack.

We're packing our things for Germany! I have no idea how everything will fit into the teeny-tiny hand baggage (around a hundred bears are coming along!)

Sculpting in wool

I keep promising myself that soon I will return to where it all began - making dog sculptures.

Time is quite cruel though and other works keep creeping in like dark shadows and there is less and less time left every day to devote to sculpture.

But I keep promising myself, and what do you know, maybe the right time is really coming up:>

I just spotted a trailer of Gus van Sant's "Restless" on The Five Senses blog (one of my favourite blogs. It's not ordinary. It's not commercial. It has more feelings in itself than any other.)

I am in absolute mood to watch "Restless". It feels like it. Maybe it's because that it feels like autumn more and more.

Magical homes

Today my father called and said 'My kid, it feels like autumn'... While he is now at the Curonian Lagoon, I went out for a walk in a nearby park and surprisingly, it did feel like the greenery had come over the hilltop and even though it is only late July, in the evening it already feels like curling up under a warm blanket in a comfortable armchair with a Dostoyevsky or Chekhov and a teapot nearby.

By the way, have you seen the stunning works by the French-American artist Suzanne Husky? I am totally charmed by the little forest cells and I really dream of building one for myself someday!

A little shop update

Teehee.. I've added some 6 new bears to the shop! There is a full jar of yet unphotoshooted ones, but the day will come, I will draw all my strength and do them all in a big bunch. Until then, please take a peek here.

Still life

So I was gone. And no bears there to show. But you see, I was too busy doing nothing. One small gulp of fresh air. The fresh, damp, rainy - whatever was good for me. A week ago the winds welcomed us to the Curonian Lagoon and just the same bid us farewell with a storm back to more studies and more work, designs, tables and sketches.
Blah, I miss it already now (even though I don't really have the energy to feel anything after a five-hour German test I took today). I miss the yahts coming in and out of the small harbour just as I miss Hamburg, which I left there now almost 9 months (!) ago all alone, unloved by everybody, gray-skies, winds and loneliness.

Oh the magical days. We did some photoshoots, and knowing how much I love natural light we squeezed every single beam of it, up until we couldn't take the rain anymore.

And there were days when we just read, lounged on the deck, stalked at the newly-wed lighthouse visitors or the very itchy filming crew at the other side of the harbour.
We took time to enjoy easy summer meals and endless antipasti. And the time stood still.

So I lied about the bears. They are almost. almost done.

Inspiration

These XIX century ornaments are what I have been working on restoring for some time in Leipzig, Germany. It's hard to tell you how inspirational it has been for me, especially the day I revealed a fresco underneath the thick layer of paint.

The most touching part for me is that obviously though the house was one of the many ones built in the boom of industrialisation by and for the working class people, it had these simple but beautiful ornaments and a humble primitive fresco depicting a distant village, a monastery and the surrounding lakes and woods (apparetly the district rose in a plain field along a country road).

To me all this means that, no matter how poor, one needs not only bread to eat but will always crave for spiritual and non rational things. A man will always seek for beauty in his home, the environment he puts his soul into.

I am a traveler, designer, a to-be scientist, a lover of life full of nature, art, classical music, jazz, books and photography. I love learning and discovering new people. And the bears? Well they are something to accompany you everywhere, to spread the joy while wearing a cute bear- brooch or giving one as a present to the one you love. I put my dreams into the little bears and hope that the inspiration will reach the homes they travel to.
